Q&A
Do I have to be in shape to start training at WVMA?
No. Whatever shape you are in when you start will improve. There’s no day like TODAY to start something you know is good for you. We have helped thousands of students to start or re-start working out.
I have a bad back/ previously injured knee, can I still do the classes?
Yes. Our instructors will help design stretches and alternate exercises in order to work around any injuries you may have. Martial arts is great for strengthening stabilizer muscles that will reduce your chances for potential injuries.
Do you have membership contracts?
Yes. Depending on the program, we have month to month, 6 month, and 12 month agreements. Most of our students renew again and again and stay for several years! After all, any worthwhile goal takes time!
Is your schedule flexible?
Currently we have classes in the morning, afternoon, evening and weekends. We will add classes when necessary or when there is a popular demand for a certain time slot.
Do you teach private lessons?
Yes. Some students prefer training in private. In general you will learn much faster by taking private lessons from our black belt instructors. Another proven strategy is to include both private and group lessons into your schedule. For more info on finding the right instructor for you, please inquire.
Will my muscles get big from doing martial arts?
Martial arts will strengthen and tone your muscles and will make them harder, more defined, and flexible. You will not develop the "bulky" muscles of weightlifters and body builders.
Do I have to do contact sparring in classes?
In the Cardio Kickboxing classes there is no sparring. Students in the martial arts program will be introduced very slowly to contact so that they will be prepared. Control and personal safety is always respected and face-contact is always optional.
Can anyone achieve a black belt?
Yes, if you have perseverance and commitment. You do not need extraordinary athletic abilities or to be a twenty year-old. The first step is to believe that you can achieve a black belt. In martial arts classes you will set short term goals on the way to your long term goal. Once you see yourself progress through the first three belts: white, yellow, and orange, you will be amazed at the progress you make. If you already believe that you can achieve the black belt, then you’re well on your way! Now just start!
